Often referred to as "pre-nup" and "post-nups". The purpose of the pre-nuptial agreement or post-nuptial is to form an agreement relating to the individual assets of each party prior to or after entering into the contract of marriage or civil partnership.
At JLS Solicitors we can advise and assist you in considering and discussing the outcome suited to your circumstances, concerning future joint property and division of assets should your relationship end.
Pre-nuptial agreements are made in contemplation of a marriage or civil partnership taking place; post-nuptial agreements can be made any time after the marriage has been celebrated.
Certain guidelines should be followed in relation to both, for example each person taking legal advice and each providing details of their financial circumstances. A pre-nuptial should be signed no later than 28 days prior to the marriage or civil partnership ceremony.
